F1 2009 RULE CHANGES

1.ENGINE:

• An engine should be used for 3 races compared to 2 last time.

• A driver is allowed to use only 8 engines throughout the season apart from the 4 used for testing purposes.

• In order to extend the life of an engine its maximum rotation is reduced from 19,000RPM to 18,000 RPM

2.SAFETY CAR RULE SCRAPPED:

• OLD RULE:While the safety car is being deployed the pit lane is closed in order to avoid people rushing back to the pits to refuel thereby causing accidents.

• DISADVANTAGE:Several drivers were penalised when they had to pit under safety car conditions because their cars were running out of fuel.

• NEW RULE:The pits will be kept open with software regulating drivers speeds as they enter the pit lane.
• 1.When the safety car is being deployed , the message will go to all cars which will then have a 'safety car' mode on their Electronic Control Units(ECU).
• 2.A soon as that message gets to the car, it will know where it is on the circuit and it will calculate a minimum time for the driver to get back to the pits.The driver will have to respect this and the information will be displayed on his dashboard.
  

3. KERS - Kinetic Energy Recovery System (Regenerative Braking):
The kinetic energy wasted by the car's braking process is stored using a mechanical flywheel or an electrical battery and it is made available to the driver via boost or turbo button on the steering wheel .This provision can be used for seven seconds a lap.

4. AERODYNAMICS: Following changes are made to reduce the downward force and to increase overtaking by making the car less susceptible to turbulence when closely followed by another car.

• The front wing becomes lower(From 150 mm to 75 mm) and wider(from 1400 mm to 1800 mm) with driver adjustment flaps.Drivers will be allowed to make two wing adjustments per lap where the wing angle can be varied up to 6 degrees.

• The rear wing becomes taller up to 150 mm to bring it level with the top of the engine cover and narrower(from 1000 mm to 750 mm) .

• The diffuser has been moved rearwards and it has been made longer and higher.

5.SLICK TYRES ( a tyre that has no tread pattern) are reintroduced from the 2009 season.

6.There will be a limit on team budgets from the 2009 season.

7.Shark gills , chimneys or any other openings in the sidepods are forbidden.

World Baseball Classic[WBC]

WBC was first held in March 2006. It is organised by the International Baseball Federation and created by Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association and other Professional leagues and players associations around the world. It was announced in 2005 to organise a world cup event every 4 years. Japan were crowned champions after beating Cuba 10-6 in the finals at San Diego.South Korea and Dominican Republic Bagged the 3rd and 4th place respectively.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

• The player should be a citizen of the nation the team represents.
• The player should have qualified for citizenship or must have a passport under the laws of a nation represented by a team.
• If the player doesn't hold a passport/has not been granted citizenship, then the player may be made eligible by WBCI upon petition by the player or team.
• The player is a permanent legal resident of the nation or territory the team represents.
• The player was born in the nation or territory the team represents.
• The player has a parent who is a citizen of the nation the team represents.
• The player has one parent who was born in the nation or territory the team represents.

RULES OF PLAY:

A pitcher cannot pitch until

1. a minimum of 3 days have passed since he last pitched, if he threw 50 or more pitches when         he last pitched.

2. a minimum of 1 day has passed since he last pitched, if he threw 30 or more pitches when he        last pitched.

3. a minimum of 1 day has passed since any second consecutive day on which the pitcher pitched.

A pitcher cannot pitch more than

1. 70 pitches per game in Round 1 of the tournament.

2. 85 pitches per game in Round 2 of the tournament.

3. 100 pitches per game in the Semifinals and Final of the tournament.

• A pitcher can still finish a batter's plate appearance even if the limit is reached, but most come out after completing the plate appearance.
